Gov. Pillen Announces Display for America’s Semiquincentennial

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Gov. Jim Pillen has announced what will be displayed for America’s 250th anniversary. A quilt and a framed Declaration of Independence will be displayed in the State Capitol until the end of July.

Gov. Pillen said these objects should make us think about the important things.

“These objects provide an opportunity to connect with our history and reflect on the important things that make us unique as Americans,” said Gov. Pillen. “The Declaration of Independence is one of our most important and sacred documents. It’s 1,337 words, including the title, and it takes about 10 minutes to read. I encourage Nebraska’s to take the time to look at it and think about what freedom means to each of us.”

The quilt was made specifically for this occasion by 73 members of the Lincoln Quilters Guild. After the display, the quilt will be raffled off.

After this announcement, Gov. Pillen signed a proclamation urging Nebraskans to reflect on the words of the founding fathers.
