Highlights and scores from Nebraska state high school baseball finals
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – State high school baseball in Nebraska wrapped up Friday in Omaha.
Here are the highlights and scores from the action.
Class A
It took 10 innings, but Lincoln East defeated Millard West to secure its first Class A state title and the first for any Lincoln school since 1977.
Millard West got on the board first thanks to an RBI single by Caden Driessen.
In the bottom of the third, Driessen delivered again, this time with an RBI sacrifice bunt, to increase the lead 2-0.
Lincoln East brought in a run in the fifth, courtesy of a passed ball, scoring Ashton Moser from third to cut the deficit to just one.
East’s AJ Evasco delivered an RBI single to bring around the tying run.
In the top of the 10th inning, Nebraska commit Joey Senstock brought in what would be the final run of the game.
Class B
The Elkhorn North Wolves beat the Norris Titans 2-1 in dramatic fashion.
The Wolves got the scoring going in the bottom of the third thanks to RBIs from Christopher Thiessen and Jett Gossart to give Elkhorn an early 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Titans’ Collier Hesterman brought in a run to cut the Wolves’ lead to just one.
Next inning, with the tying run at second base, Kaizer Popenhagen sliced a shallow single into center field with two outs.
Centerfielder Drew Harper received the ball and delivered the throw on time to beat the runner at home, securing back-to-back Class B titles for Elkhorn North.
Class C
The Malcolm Clippers secured their first state title after beating the Roncalli Catholic Crimson Pride 3-1.
Mason Wiesnieski got the scoring going for the Clippers early. He grounded into a double play but with no outs was able to bring a run across to give Malcolm a 1-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third, Wiesnieski delivered again, this time with a two-run RBI double to increase the lead to 3-0.
The Crimson Pride brought around a run late in the game, but on the back of a complete game by pitcher Maddox Meyer, Malcolm secured the win.
