Lincoln Police Department releases results from school zone traffic safety initiative

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Lincoln Police Department on Friday released the results from its school zone traffic safety initiative.
The initiative, which was conducted from May 1 through May 14, was intended to align with the final weeks of the school year.
During the campaign, officers worked overtime to monitor school zones throughout the city during morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal times.
According to the police department, the No. 1 objective of the initiative was to curb dangerous driving behaviors, reduce speed and ensure pedestrian safety where children are most vulnerable.
During the initiative, the police department conducted 105 traffic stops, issuing 117 official citations and 21 warnings.
LPD said multiple drivers were clocked at speeds more than double the school zone speed limit.
