‘Lover’s Lane Murders’ suspect found dead in Lancaster County Jail

Floyd Parrott

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The suspect in the “Lover’s Lane Murders” in Houston, Texas, in 1990 has died in the Lancaster County Jail.

Floyd Parrott, 64, was found unresponsive in his jail cell on Tuesday morning. Officials said correctional staff administered life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.

Parrott was arrested in Lincoln in March in connection with the suspected murder of Andy Atkinson and Cheryl Henry during a date night in 1990.

According to officials, Parrott was awaiting extradition back to Harris County.

“Mr. Parrott had refused to voluntarily waive extradition to face the criminal charges pending in Texas,” said Lancaster County Attorney Pat Condon.

“So my office was working closely with authorities from Harris County District Attorney’s Office in Houston to secure a governor’s warrant.”

A grand jury will conduct an investigation, as is the case with every inmate death.

“We take all these deaths, the in-custody deaths, extremely seriously,” said Lancaster Deputy Ben Houchin.

Authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
