LINCOLN, Neb. (Nebraska Athletics) — After recording a school-record 23 conference wins this season, the Nebraska baseball program was well represented in the Big Ten’s postseason awards announced on Tuesday.

Senior Dylan Carey was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, while Drew Grego was recognized as the Big Ten Freshman of the Year.

Carey was joined on the All-Big Ten First Team by Carson Jasa. J’Shawn Unger, Case Sanderson, Mac Moyer and Grego were selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team.

Grego and Jeter Worthley were named to the All-Freshman Team, and Carey and Moyer landed on the All-Defensive Team.

Rounding out the Husker honorees was Caleb Clark, who was Nebraska’s recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

Carey is having a breakout 2026 campaign, batting .347 at the plate with 16 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 63 RBI and 51 runs scored.

The senior shortstop became the program’s all-time leader in career doubles earlier this season and is tied for fifth all-time in program history with 259 career hits.

Carey has compiled 24 multi-hit games and 14 multi-RBI performances in 2026. Carey has been equally impressive in the field, committing just four errors in 197 chances for a .980 fielding percentage while turning 27 double plays at shortstop.

Grego has put together one of the top freshman seasons at Nebraska in recent history, becoming the sixth player in program history to be named conference freshman of the year.

Max Anderson (2021) and Chad Luensmann (2016) were named Big Ten Freshman of the Year, while Shane Komine (1999), Matt Hopper (2000) and Johnny Dorn (2005) were all named Big 12 Freshman of the Year.

The Papillion, Neb., native has appeared in 48 games, including 42 starts, and is hitting .348 with 13 doubles, a triple, seven home runs, 44 RBI and 32 runs scored.

The freshman has recorded 17 multi-hit games and has driven in multiple runs in 10 games. In last week’s win at Creighton, Grego tied a school record with three doubles in the Big Red’s midweek victory.

Jasa is 9-2 on the season with a 3.58 ERA in 75.1 innings across 14 starts. The redshirt sophomore has held opposing hitters to a .211 batting average while striking out 101 batters, which is tied for the most by an NU pitcher in the Big Ten era and tied for ninth all-time on Nebraska’s single-season strikeout chart.

The right-hander has tossed two complete games and totaled eight starts with at least eight strikeouts, including a career-high 11 punchouts vs. Penn State in April.

Sanderson is hitting .365 for the Big Red with 16 doubles, a triple, six home runs and 45 RBI across 55 games.

The junior first baseman leads the Huskers with a .492 on-base percentage and has tallied five stolen bases this season. Sanderson leads the Big Red with 28 multi-hit performances and has driven in multiple runs in 11 games.

Unger has been one of the nation’s top closers throughout the season, ranking eighth nationally with 11 saves for the Husker bullpen.

Along with the 11 saves in 23 relief appearances, the right-hander holds a 6-1 record and has struck out 35 batters in 36.1 innings while limiting opponents to a .206 batting average. Unger is tied for the ninth-most in single-season saves in program history.

Moyer has ranked among the nation’s leaders in hits this season, finishing the regular season 12th nationally with 83 hits in 54 games.

The junior is hitting a team-best .376 with 12 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 35 RBI. Moyer has scored 63 times this season, which is the most by a Husker since 2005.

The leadoff hitter is second on the team with 27 multi-hit games this season. Moyer has reached base at a .478 clip this season and has been flawless in center field, committing zero errors in 121 chances for a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Worthley has been a steady presence in the Husker lineup, hitting .314 with 11 doubles, a team-high three triples, two home runs, 20 runs batted in, and 40 runs scored in 48 games.

The freshman catcher has thrown out seven baserunners while serving as the anchor of an NU pitching staff that ranks in the top five of the Big Ten in ERA, hits allowed/9 innings, shutouts, strikeouts/9 innings and WHIP.

Rounding out the Husker honorees was Clark, who has appeared in 22 games out of the bullpen for a Nebraska squad that finished 41-14 overall and 23-7 in Big Ten play.

The senior is Nebraska’s recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

First pitch for that game is scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m. at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.
