LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska baseball will have its work cut out as it faces a defending national champ and an in-state rival during the 2023 season.

Head coach Will Bolt announced the Huskers’ 2023 schedule on Monday.

“We have a challenging schedule that will give our student-athletes the opportunity to compete against some of the top teams in college baseball,” he said in a press release. “The Big Ten continues to improve every year and our schedule leading up to conference play will help us get ready to compete in our league.”

Nebraska will open up its season with a four-game series against San Diego before facing defending national champ Ole Miss in the Cambria College Classic.

The Huskers’ Big Ten slate of games includes series against Purdue, Penn State, Maryland and Illinois.

Nebraska is also set to take on in-state opponents Creighton and University of Nebraska at Omaha.

The Huskers will have 27 home games at Haymarket Park next season.

“I’m excited for our home slate and look forward to playing in front of our great fans at Hawks Field next spring,” Bolt said.

Last season, the Huskers failed to make an appearance in the Big Ten Tournament after going 10-14 in conference play.

The offseason saw several Huskers enter the transfer portal, including Leighton Banjoff, Cam Chick and Koty Frank.

In 2021, Nebraska earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament after winning the Big Ten championship.

But the Huskers didn’t make it far, falling to Arkansas in the Fayetteville Regional.
