NSP: 400 lbs of marijuana found inside ATMs
GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KLKN) — Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) uncovered more than 400 lbs of marijuana hidden inside ATM machines.
Friday, April 30 around 10 am, a trooper watched a Mercedes Sprinter Van fail to use his turn signal when exiting off of I-80 at the Giltner Interchange.
While pulling the car over, an NSP K9 detected the presence of drugs in the vehicle.
This prompted troopers to search the vehicle. Inside was a plastic tote, 14 ATMs, and a large safe filled with marijuana.
The total weight of the marijuana was 426 lbs; about $9,000 in cash was also found in a duffel bag in the front seat of the van.
The driver, identified as 36-year-old Gilbert Fernandez of Florida, was arrested on multiple drug charges.
