Staying Hot and Humid Thursday, Into the Weekend
Hot and humid conditions continue for Thursday with building cloud cover throughout the day. Afternoon temperatures are forecast in the lower 90s, with a small chance of an isolated shower through this evening.
Any showers that can get going this afternoon will likely remain brief for far southeast Nebraska, according to the latest run of StormCast. You may see a few sprinkles if you are lucky enough to fall under one of these quick showers.
High temperatures for the majority of the state will reach the 90s, with the warmest temperatures seen along the Nebraska-South Dakota border.
Here in Lincoln, we are on the way to the lower 90s on Thursday afternoon with increasing cloud cover. A few sprinkles are possible this afternoon and evening, though they will not likely amount to any sort of meaningful rainfall.
Overnight lows will be a couple of degrees above average, with most of us in eastern Nebraska seeing temperatures fall to the lower 70s.
Clear skies return through the overnight hours with lows expected in the lower 70s for the Capital City.
While the heat index has behaved itself so far, we might not be so lucky heading this weekend. Heat indices will be in the upper 90s and into the triple digits over the next several days.
Potentially some positive news for those looking for a break from the heat, we are expecting a shift in the large-scale weather pattern by the middle of next week. Not only could this return temperatures to the 80s, but it could also give us a chance at some precipitation.
The upcoming weekend features some of the warmest temperatures of the year, with highs reaching the upper 90s. After reaching their peak on Monday, we slowly return to below-average conditions to round out next week.
