Trial for man accused in death of Nebraska trooper deemed mistrial following jury deadlock

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The trial for the man charged in the death of Nebraska State Patrol trooper Kyle McAcy has been deemed a mistrial, Cass County officials said on Friday.
The jury returned to the courtroom undecided, saying they were deadlocked 3-3 on the charge against 57-year-old Thomas Jordan of Palmyra.
Per Nebraska law, the Cass County Attorney will decide whether to retry the case.
In August, Jordan pleaded not guilty to one count of misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide in connection with the death of McAcy.

On Feb. 17, 2025, McAcy was responding to a crash on Interstate 80 between Ashland and Greenwood.
The crash involved a snowplow and two other vehicles, according to the Nebraska State Patrol.
McAcy asked the plow driver to move the snowplow, the patrol said.
Authorities said the driver backed up as McAcy walked away, striking him.
The criminal complaint accuses the snowplow driver of careless driving, saying it caused McAcy’s death.
