You're invited out to visit one of Lincoln's newest attractions! It's a city park!

With the flip of a switch, the fountains come alive…and so does a very big part of the city.

“Wow! This is a 'wow moment'! I watched the whole thing from the very beginning, but this is a terrific day!” Lincoln resident Tice Miller said.

There's been a lot of work along the Antelope Valley, and in the heart of it all, lies Union Plaza. It's now completed. It's a place where people from all walks of life can meet up and hang out.

“We're celebrating people getting together. We want to get people down here and get them enjoying the park. A park isn't a park until you have got people there!” Lincoln Parks and Rec Director Lynn Johnson said.

There's plenty to see and do at the new park. Including a play area, where kids can slide into all sorts of fun. Statues of a dog, a giant snapping turtle, and a little field mouse…kudos to you if you can find him. And you can't miss “Groundwater Colossus”, the giant head sculpture, along with all of the other fountains.

Mayor Chris Beutler says all of this provides something the city was previously missing.

“Now, we're pushing economic development, a lot of things going on and that in turn makes it possible to create an aesthetically pleasing and beautiful city and a place where young people want to stay and go to work and live their lives,” he said.

The Union Plaza name comes from Union Bank and Trust, the company made a $1.5 million dollar donation. That, with the help of more than 500 other donors, gives the city its newest attraction.
