Husker coach Scott Frost fired following loss to Georgia Southern
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska football head coach Scott Frost has been fired.
The Husker coach will no longer be with the team, according to a statement from Athletic Director Trev Alberts.
Associate head coach Mickey Joseph will fill in as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
This announcement comes a day after Nebraska’s loss to Georgia Southern at home.
“Earlier today I met with Coach Frost and informed him we were making a change in the leadership of our football program, effective immediately,” Alberts said. “Scott has poured his heart and soul into the Nebraska Football program both as a quarterback and head coach, and I appreciate his work and dedication.”

The Huskers opened the season with a loss against Big Ten opponent Northwestern in Dublin.
Frost and company came back out the next week and took down the Football Championship Subdivision team North Dakota.
On Saturday, the team fell to Georgia Southern 45-42.
“After the disappointing start to our season, I decided the best path forward for our program was to make a change in our head coaching position,” Alberts said.
Alberts spoke with the media on Sunday regarding the coaching change.

Firstly, he acknowledged that it’s been a tough day for everyone. Alberts added that he hoped this day would never come.
“I really thought it could work with Scott,” he said.
Alberts made the decision because he felt that he owed it to the fans and players.
With nine games left in the season, Alberts felt it would be good to have a different voice leading the team.
He then confirmed that Nebraska would begin a nationwide search for a new head coach.
“We won’t make decisions or rush things,” Alberts said. “We need to hire the right leader and the right fit.”
Alberts made it clear that they would support Joseph in any way possible.
He added that Joseph would also be an “obvious” head coach candidate.
Alberts called Joseph an “energetic guy” and said that he sees this as a real opportunity professionally.
During the press conference, Alberts said that he didn’t want to go backward and evaluate Frost’s performance as head coach.
“We have moved on,” he said.
Back in November, Frost’s contract was restructured.
The new contract was set to bring down his buyout drop from $15 million to $7.5 million on Oct. 1.
Frost will end his tenure at Nebraska with a 16-31 record.
He came to Nebraska back in 2018 following Mike Riley’s three-year stint as head coach.
