Nebraska blown out by Oklahoma

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska scored on its first possession Saturday, but it was almost all Oklahoma after that.

The Sooners controlled the game and came away with a 49-14 win.

No. 6 Oklahoma put up 580 yards to Nebraska’s 327.

That’s despite the Husker defense, which has been struggling this season, forcing three punts and a missed field goal from the Sooners.

After the first Blackshirts stop, the Huskers scored on a 32-yard pass from Casey Thompson to Trey Palmer.

But then Oklahoma got seven straight touchdowns, including a 61-yard run by quarterback Dillon Gabriel.

In the third quarter, Chubba Purdy replaced Casey Thompson at quarterback for NU, and in the fourth quarter, he made an 8-yard touchdown run.

Gabriel threw for 230 yards, and OU’s Eric Gray has rushed for 113 yards and two touchdowns.

The game was a throwback to the intense rivalry between the two programs that lasted for decades.

The Huskers and Sooners were both powerhouses in the days of the Big Eight, and the games between them often had national implications.

Now Oklahoma (3-0) is far ahead of Nebraska (1-3), and NU needed a strong showing to inject confidence into the team and its fan base.

It was the the first game under interim head coach Mickey Joseph, who took over on Sunday after Scott Frost’s firing.

The Huskers will look for their second win of the season against Indiana on October 1st at home.
