Nebraska volleyball aims to continue momentum against rival Wisconsin

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska volleyball has been cooking, to say the least.

The team, which is ranked No. 1 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, hasn’t lost a single set since dropping one against Maryland on Oct. 2.

And the Huskers’ only loss this season came against Stanford back on Sept. 13.

But Nebraska is set to face conference rival Wisconsin on Wednesday in a rematch of last season’s national championship game.

Head coach John Cook spoke about the upcoming matchup during a Tuesday press conference.

He acknowledges that the Badgers have great players and have done a “really good job” this season.

Wisconsin, which is ranked No. 5 in the AVCA poll, is 15-3 going into Wednesday’s matchup.

“They’re always in the hunt,” he said. “They won three straight Big Ten Championships.”

Cook said the upcoming matchup is a great challenge for the Huskers, who are undefeated in conference play.

“And this what you got to do in the Big Ten, if you want to be in the hunt for a Big Ten championship,” he said.

Outside hitter Madi Kubik said the team is excited to face the Badgers.

Nebraska has a history with Wisconsin.

Last year, the two teams faced off in the finale of the NCAA tournament and the Huskers fell to the Badgers in five sets.

Despite the devastating loss, Kubik said all the team can do is look toward the future.

“At this point, we can’t change anything that’s happened in the past,” she said. “We can only use what we learned and bring that into the future.”

Wisconsin will be the team’s third-straight away matchup after winning games over No. 12 Purdue and Illinois last week.

The team will be playing at the Wisconsin Field House, which Kubik said is “kind of like a dungeon.”

“I think we’ve done a really good job of being on the road for a really long time and just coming in and being really intentional and efficient with our practices,” she said.

Cook agrees that the Huskers play well on the road, saying Nebraska is “just used to it.”

“Every place in the Big Ten, you know, is tough when they get 7,000 fans, but it’s fun,” he said. “You know, our players thrive on that.”
