Two Nebraska churches vandalized; altar partially shattered
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Multiple Nebraska churches were vandalized last week, leaving an altar flipped and partially shattered.
The Webster County Sheriff’s Office says two fire extinguishers were sprayed throughout Zion Lutheran Church in Red Cloud.
This all began on Friday and continued into Saturday morning.
An office door was also broken, and total damage is estimated in the thousands of dollars.
Anyone with information on what happened is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 402-746-2722.
State Sen. Julie Slama says St. Paulinus Catholic Church in Syracuse was also vandalized on Friday.
“Among other acts, they flipped the altar, took the sacred altar stone, and shattered it,” she wrote on Twitter. “It was an attack on a sacred area of the church during a sacred time of year.”
She asked everyone to join her in praying for worshippers.
“May all those who choose to worship be able to do so freely and without fear,” she said.
