‘They bring a lot of energy’: Nebraska volleyball embracing young roster
CHICAGO, Ill. (KLKN) – Nebraska volleyball will begin preseason camp on Aug. 8 with a new-look roster.
The Huskers have no seniors on the team and added six newcomers, including five freshmen and Florida transfer, now captain, Merritt Beason.
During Big Ten Volleyball Media Days in Chicago, head coach John Cook, and captains Beason and Lexi Rodriguez talked about the competitive impact the freshmen add to the Huskers.
“These five freshmen are key pieces to our team,” Rodriguez said. “The competitiveness in them is just something so special that I think is very vital to our team, and is going to be really important down the stretch of this season.”

“All five of them are going to play a very pivotal role in our team and they bring a lot of energy,” Beason said. “They bring a lot of competition and they add a lot to our team.”
Last season, Nebraska had four seniors and two five-year players on its roster, but Cook embraces the youth of the freshmen and believes their talents will quickly impact the team.
“I tell our players two things, one, volleyball doesn’t know how old you are, so the game does not know how old you are,” Cook said. “The second thing is, if a dog is gonna bite, it’s gonna bite as a pup. So these guys are gonna be ready.”
