‘An amazing opportunity’: John Cook, Huskers talk Volleyball Day in Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska’s John Cook, Merritt Beason and Bekka Allick are preparing for the Huskers’ match in Memorial Stadium.

But before Wednesday’s historic match, the trio held a press conference at Memorial Stadium on Tuesday.

All three agree that the matchup is going to be a celebration of women’s athletics.

“It’s just an amazing opportunity for us and for women’s sports in general and just the sport of volleyball,” Beason said.

Playing in Memorial Stadium also gives more fans the opportunity to see a Husker volleyball match.

“Bobs obviously very hard to get into, so I’m glad that lots of young girls are able to come and watch a match,” Beason said.

Cook said the Huskers are preparing to face some challenges: playing in the wind and without a roof.

But since Nebraska played beach volleyball, Cook thinks the team will be able to adapt to the changes.

“The wind forecast sounds really good but there will be some little swirls in there,” he said.

The Huskers will get to test out the court Tuesday night in a two-hour-long practice session.

“It’ll be interesting to see how practice goes tonight,” Cook said. “My biggest anticipation is how we play out there.”
