Run game powers Nebraska to win over Louisiana Tech

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska football found its way in the second half on Saturday to defeat Louisiana Tech 28-14.

The game was tied at 7 at halftime, but the Huskers fired up the run game to pull away.

Heinrich Haarberg, who led the Huskers to their first win last week, started at quarterback.

He ran 43 yards in one of the final plays of the first quarter, putting Nebraska in Bulldog territory.

But early in the second quarter, the Huskers got stuck at the 19-yard line.

They set up to a kick a field goal on fourth-and-4, but holder Timmy Bleekrode took the snap and ran the ball for a first down.

Billy Kemp IV followed that with a 9-yard touchdown run.

Louisiana Tech responded on the next drive with a 14-yard run to the end zone by Jacob Fields.

As the clock ran out on the first half, Nebraska’s Tristan Alvano missed a 41-yard field goal attempt.

The Huskers had the ball first in the second half and got the ground game going.

They put together a nine-play drive made up entirely of runs by Haarberg and Anthony Grant.

Grant rushed into the end zone from 2 yards out to put Nebraska ahead.

The Huskers scored again on the first play of the first quarter, when Haarberg threw a 29-yarder to Thomas Fidone II.

Two possessions later, Haarberg sprinted 72 yards for a quick Nebraska touchdown.

Midway through the fourth quarter, the game was delayed due to lightning for about an hour.

After the delay, the Bulldogs cut their deficit with a 20-yard TD pass from Jack Turner to Cyrus Allen.

But their comeback attempt ended on their next drive, when Isaac Gifford intercepted a pass with less than a minute left.

Nebraska racked up 419 offensive yards, including 312 rushing yards.

Haarberg led the run game, with 19 carries for 157 yards.

In the air, he completed eight of 17 pass attempts for 107 yards.

Kemp led the receivers, with 62 yards on five receptions.

The Blackshirts, meanwhile, held Louisiana Tech to 338 yards – and just 46 on the ground.

Nebraska (2-2) will host No. 2 Michigan next week.
