John Cook putting Husker volleyball players in ‘jail’ for missed serves

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska volleyball had 28 service errors in road games against Purdue and Indiana last week.

For comparison, the Huskers were responsible for 19 errors against ranked opponents Ohio State and Minnesota at home the week before.

At a press conference Tuesday, head coach John Cook said those mishaps cost the Huskers, who are undefeated.

“Every time you missed a serve, you just robbed Lexi Rodriguez, Laney Choboy and Bekka Allick of a chance to block or dig a ball,” he said.

During practice, Cook told players that they would atone for missed serves.

“They’re stealing right now, so they’re going to service it in or they’re going go to jail,” he said.

It’s unclear what a Cook jail sentence looks like, but he said missed serves take away opportunities for Nebraska.

“You’re living on trying to serve tough and keep it in,” he said. “You don’t want to serve too easy, so it’s a fine line.”
