Cold and windy for Friday
Thursday was a very active day for severe weather across central Nebraska. After things started to calm down on Thursday evening, here’s a look at the reports that have come in as of 8 p.m. Thursday. Several hail reports were made with ping-pong sized hail near Odessa.
There were also multiple tornado reports as brief spin-ups touched down throughout Thursday. Here’s a look at those reports that came in through south-central Nebraska near the Tri-Cities.
We’ll be feeling the wake of this strong system throughout Friday. On the back side, expect lingering showers throughout the day, mostly through the first part. Overcast skies will make for a dreary end to the work week.
Other than a gloomy day, what will truly make it feel miserable will be the wind. Strong wind gusts are expected as high as 40-45 mph here in Lincoln. The strongest winds for us will come by Friday evening, affecting most high school football games.
Below is a snapshot of some of the strongest winds expected across the state. Through central Nebraska, some of the worst winds will arrive by the late morning hours. Again, a miserable day for most.
Because of that, a High Wind Warning has been issued for all of central and western Nebraska. Through the area highlighted in gold below, gusts up to 60 mph are possible. Time to tie down the Halloween decorations if they’re up!
You can probably imagine what this will do to temperatures on Friday. A cold air mass will settle in to the region, and temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s for highs. It’ll feel a lot colder than that though, with that wind!
There’s a small chance for rain on Saturday, but expect another breezy and cloudy day to start the weekend. Cooler again, too.
