Becoming windy on Wednesday
The Dense Fog Advisory across southern Nebraska was cleared early this morning, but only because fog wasn’t expected to drop visibilities below a quarter mile anymore. Fog will still be possible in the early parts of the day today, as we’ve been watching closer to Hebron along Highway 81.
Other than patchy fog in some low-lying areas, winds are going to pick up on Wednesday. Those winds are going to carry in a drier air mass, cutting into some of the fog trying to develop. Temperatures will be on their way to the lower 60s early in the afternoon.
Here’s a look at how those winds pick up, hour by hour. They’ll be at their strongest through the afternoon, with gusts around 30-35 mph in and around Lincoln.
Statewide, winds will be at their strongest through central Nebraska. Gusts as high as 40 mph are possible this afternoon. Just about everyone in the state will feel these windy conditions, too, as a low strengthens to our south.
We were talking about Christmas lights popping up around town already in the morning shows, and if you’re ready to join that movement the weather has been cooperating lately! Through the rest of this week, Wednesday is the only day to be cautious about with some stronger winds through the afternoon.
But we’re still about 46 days away from Christmas, while Thanksgiving is just 14 days away!
For those waiting to hold off for a while longer, weather still looks great through mid-November as the mild conditions continue.
Next better chance for precipitation appears to be the following weekend after this one. Still far out, but that’s what I am keeping an eye on at this point.
Stay tuned for more from us with Winter Weather Awareness Day coming up Thursday, November 9th. We’ll talk more about what you need to know for that season with a winter outlook and safety tips with winter around the corner.
