Nebraska defensive back Quinton Newsome declares for NFL draft

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska defensive back Quinton Newsome declared for the NFL draft on Sunday.

Newsome announced his decision in a post to X, the app formerly known as Twitter.

“To Husker Nation, I am forever grateful for the best fans in the country and getting the chance to finish my collegiate career at Memorial Stadium,” he wrote.


The Georgia native came to Nebraska in 2019.  He played in 10 games as a true freshman, contributing to special teams and defense.

In 2021, Newsome started all 12 games, recording 57 tackles, two tackles for a loss, a sack and four pass breakups.

He played in 12 games the next year, extending his streak to 24 consecutive starts.

This year, Newsome started in 10 games and finished with 37 tackles, a tackle for a loss, three pass breakups, an interception and a fumble recovery.

In the win against Purdue, Newsome returned a blocked field goal 68 yards for a touchdown to give Nebraska a 21-0 lead.

He was then named Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week.

Newsome was also one of eight Husker defenders to earn a Big Ten postseason honor.
