Warming as sun returns Wednesday; wintry mix, rain chances later
Some light snow fell in northwest Nebraska, generally just a dusting for most. A little bit made it to the ground in northeast Nebraska as well. However, dry air took a lot of the fun out of our chances in eastern Nebraska. The radar looked busy for a time, but nothing was able to make it to the surface.
We turn around to have a much warmer day this Wednesday. Highs will be in the upper 40s through the afternoon as clouds thin out the rest of the day. Winds will be calm throughout today – not bad!
We only get warmer after Wednesday. In fact, we look warm enough for rain if we see much come from a couple chances to end the week.
Here’s a more detailed look at what’s coming.
A system coming off of the Rockies will move precipitation north into southwest Nebraska by Wednesday afternoon. Not much is expected, but some freezing rain will be possible first. A wintry mix continues on and off through early Thursday, with some of this shifting east into south central Nebraska.
For southeast Nebraska, dry air wins out through most of Thursday, too. Better chances for some light rain come late Thursday night into early Friday.
The most precipitation anyone will see out of this will come for southwest Nebraska. Up to a half inch possible at most for those around the McCook area. Closer to home, less than a 0.10″ is expected through Friday.
Through it all, above average temperatures are here to stay for a while. Many days will feature temperatures warming into the 50s into next week.
