Texas takes down No. 1 Nebraska in NCAA volleyball championship game

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A season of highs ended on a low note for Nebraska volleyball on Sunday.

No. 2 seed Texas swept the No. 1 Huskers in the national championship game in Tampa, Florida.

The Longhorns recorded 12 aces and hit .264, while holding the Huskers to .013.

The first set was neck and neck, with Texas winning 25-22.

But the Longhorns stampeded in the second set, going on an 11-0 run to win 25-14.

The third set started close, but Texas pulled away with multiple scoring runs. The Longhorns won 25-11.

Madisen Skinner led Texas with 16 kills, and Asjia O’Neal had five aces.

Emma Halter had nine digs.

Harper Murray made seven kills and two aces for Nebraska.

Lexi Rodriguez and Bergen Reilly each recorded six digs, and Bekka Allick had four blocks.

The Huskers finish their season 33-2.

They began the year by setting a world record for attendance at a women’s sporting event when 92,003 people attended a match at Memorial Stadium.

Nebraska also won its first Big Ten title since 2017.

John Cook was named the AVCA Coach of the Year for his leadership of the team, which had no seniors on the roster.
