Former Sen. Adam Morfeld swatted for a second time at Lincoln home
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Former Nebraska State Sen. Adam Morfeld was swatted again Monday night.
That’s when someone makes a false call to police to get law enforcement to enter someone’s home.
“It’s just a big nuisance for my neighbors, and it’s also a real waste of police resources and time,” Morfeld said.
In December, Lincoln Police responded to his home after a 911 call claiming that he had killed his wife and was going to kill himself.
“It was on Christmas Day, actually,” Morfeld said. “And we were traveling to spend some time with friends and family.”
On Monday, it happened again.
Channel 8 requested an interview with the Lincoln Police Department, but officers were not available to speak about the investigation.
LPD said tracking people who make these calls is a challenge because they are often made through a fake phone number created on the internet.
The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said swatting events put law enforcement, as well as the public, in danger.
Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said politicians and former politicians are among those most targeted.
Morfeld, who left the Legislature in 2022, said the swatting won’t stop him.
“I’m going to continue to advocate and exercise my voice, my constitutional right to be active and involved in my community,” he said. “And it isn’t going to have a chilling effect on me.”
