LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The brother of a man accused in the 2021 killing of 23-year-old Carly Schaaf has now been charged in her death.

Danyl Barraza, 19, was charged Friday with accessory to first-degree murder, according to court records.

He helped his brother, 25-year-old Joesef Barraza, hide and move Schaaf’s body at Pawnee Lake, according to an arrest affidavit.

A Lancaster County judge set Danyl Barraza’s bond at $250,000.  He must pay $25,000 to be released from jail.

Schaaf was reported missing in May 2021.

Her body was found the next month at Pawnee Lake.  The Lincoln Police Department said she was suffocated.

Joesef Barraza and Rachel Pageler, 27, were arrested in January 2022.

The elder Barraza brother, who was sentenced to federal prison on a gun charge in December, is charged with first-degree murder and three counts of first-degree sexual assault.

Pageler – who initially faced several charges, including first-degree murder – now faces only an accessory to a felony charge.
