‘Electrical issue’ sparked fire at northern Lancaster County home, investigators say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Two cats were killed Monday in a trailer home fire in northern Lancaster County.

The fire was reported around 4:20 p.m. near Northwest 12th Street and West Waverly Road, just southeast of Raymond.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said the home was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

The fire started underneath the home and burned through the floor, according to Capt. Jeff Wienke with Raymond Volunteer Fire & Rescue.

The Nebraska State Fire Marshal Agency said the fire was accidental and caused by an “electrical issue” in a crawl space.

No one was injured, but two cats died in the fire.  Two more cats are unaccounted for, Houchin said.

The home, worth around $86,000, is a total loss, according to Houchin.  About $16,000 in personal property was also destroyed.
