LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The civil complaint filed against the former owner of 37 horses in Gage County came to an end Monday.

Gage County Attorney Roger Harris said the proceeds from a livestock auction where the horses were sold last month have been distributed.

“Through the civil action, we were able to transfer the horses from her to others,” Harris said in a statement.  “Hopefully, the informed public will understand that fairness and justice were achieved.”

The horses’ former owner, Dr. Jennafer Glaesemann, received $113,128.75, a portion of the $184,097.25 raised at the auction.

The rest of the proceeds were distributed among several Gage County agencies, Gage County District Court and the Farm Service Agency.

Epona Horse Rescue and its volunteers, who cared for the horses before their sale, bought 20 of the 37 horses at the auction.  They raised over $50,000 in a GoFundMe campaign.

Glaesemann, who was initially cited with 37 counts of animal neglect, had the charges dropped as part of an agreement to give up ownership of the horses.
