Custodian accused of stealing shoes, chef’s knife and lunchbox from Waverly school

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A custodian was ticketed Thursday in a string of thefts at Waverly High School, the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office says.

Capt. John Vik said a student reported Tuesday that track shoes were stolen overnight from their locker.

The family went to Play It Again Sports in Lincoln and bought what they thought was a new pair of shoes.

“Upon bringing them back, actually found out that was their child’s shoes that ended up at Play It Again Sports,” Vik said.

A school resource officer conducted an investigation and learned that the shoes were stolen by a night custodian at Waverly High School.

Deputies recovered some other stolen items, including five pairs of athletic shoes, a lunchbox and a chef’s knife, according to Vik.  The shoes were worth around $300.

The custodian was cited on suspicion of misdemeanor theft.

Vik did not know if the custodian was still employed at the school.
