Severe storms likely across Nebraska late Monday
We’re only in the middle of an active weather pattern by Monday. After a couple rounds of stronger storms on Sunday, we’ll see a relatively calm start to Monday.
Humidity will increase and be more noticeable by the afternoon, with a spotty chance for an isolated shower/thunderstorm late in the morning.
But storms will start to pop up everywhere across the state especially once the sun starts to set. The timeframe for strong and severe storms will be more of a late night and overnight event. It’ll be important to have multiple ways to get weather alerts with this being about the worst timeframe to see severe weather as most of us are vulnerable and trying to sleep.
The latest severe weather outlook from the Storm Prediction Center has a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk for most of us, with an Enhanced (Level 3) risk for southwest Nebraska for tonight.
Within the Enhanced risk, all severe weather modes will be particularly possible. The higher chance for a few tornadoes is there.
Hash marks within the large hail risk means that area could see hail stones 2″ in diameter, if not larger.
Damaging winds will be of concern, too. Strong wind gusts around 75 mph or higher will be possible in the area with hashes.
This round is expected to die down into Tuesday morning, with stronger storms redeveloping through the late morning and early afternoon over eastern Nebraska.
These storms will use eastern Nebraska as sort of a launch pad and be at their most intense heading into Iowa and Missouri. That’s why there’s a change in the severe risk over a small distance.
The window to see severe storms will also be shorter for tomorrow.
