‘The need is great’: Lincoln churches unite, raising money to end hunger
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Dozens joined in on a walk to end hunger in Lincoln on Sunday.
The 55th annual CROP Hunger Walk raised money for local food pantries.
Several churches joined together for the cause, starting their walk at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church near 40th and A streets.
“Hunger and poverty has been a big issue everywhere,” said Pastor Tobi White. “But here in Lincoln, I know that as prices are changing and wages aren’t, the need is great.”
A quarter of the money goes back into the Lincoln community. The rest goes to places where it’s most needed.
Linda Nelson, one of the walkers, said she’s glad to do her part in helping with something that affects so many people in the capital city.
“Many of us have participated in our community in professions like teaching where we saw that up close and personal,” Nelson said. “We saw how that hunger affected our kids and their families. So for anyone who’s aware of that, knowing that 25% of your dollar comes back here means you’re making an impact on hunger in your community.”
White said it’s incredible to see so many people want to donate.
Their goal is $20,000,
“It always feels good to know you’re making a difference,” she said.
