Athlete of the week: Raymond Central’s historic football season comes to an end
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Raymond Central football team wrapped up a historic football season on Friday, taking a 41-14 loss to undefeated Norfolk Catholic.
But there was plenty to be proud of. The Mustangs accomplished numerous milestones that haven’t been reached in over two decades.
On Friday, November 1st, Raymond Central won its first playoff game in 24 years, taking down Boone Central 21-19.
The Mustangs finished the year 8-3 and racked up a collective 2182 yards of rushing on the season, going for 198.4 yards on the ground per game.
Raymond Central’s rushing attack was led by junior quarterback Wyatt Jelinek. Jelinek ran for more than 85 yards per game and tallied 10 touchdowns with his feet.
The seniors who are leaving this program behind hope that this season can spark something special for years to come.
“It’s something that will stick in the program forever (and) hopefully build it into a stronger program in the long run,” said senior slot receiver Dawson Potter.
