Driver will be ticketed in fiery east Lincoln crash
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A Lincoln teenager will be ticketed in a fiery crash after he is released from the hospital, police say.
Jayden Blake, 19, will be cited on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest and willful reckless driving, according to a Lincoln Police Department crash report.
The crash happened shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday at 70th and O streets.
Police said an officer tried to pull over Blake for driving recklessly on O Street, but he sped off.
The teen ran a red light at 70th, according to the crash report, and hit a northbound SUV.
Blake’s Dodge Charger caught fire, and he was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
The two people in the SUV were hospitalized with less serious injuries.
Surveillance video showed the Charger entering the intersection at a high speed, according to the crash report.
Operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest becomes a felony when someone is injured.
Blake has been to court for several traffic violations, including street racing.
On Sept. 21, 2023, he was driving slowly on Highway 6 west of Lincoln because he was getting ready to race the car next to him, authorities said.
Two motorcyclists traveling behind them couldn’t stop in time and crashed, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office.
One of the motorcyclists, 55-year-old Bradley Krutz, died at the scene.
In July, Blake was sentenced to six months of probation and a $250 fine for engaging in a speed contest.
