Huskers mount massive comeback to top Northwestern on the road

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska men’s basketball team mounted a massive comeback on Sunday, beating Northwestern 68-64 at Welsh-Ryan Arena in Evanston.

The Huskers (17-9, 7-8) were down by 18 points with just over 15 minutes left in the second half, and finished the game on a 36-14 run to take home the victory.

The Huskers only led for 1:52, the shortest amount of time in a win under Fred Hoiberg.

Nebraska boasted a solid shooting percentage from the floor, out-shooting the Wildcats 44% to 36%.

Brice Williams led the Huskers with 21 points while hitting six of his 14 shots. He also dished out a team-high four assists.

Juwan Gary also had a solid shooting performance, scoring 17 points on 4-for-7 shooting. Gary also went a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.

Braxton Meah was a force on the glass, grabbing a team-high seven rebounds, while Rollie Worster also tallied four assists.

Northwestern was led by the Big Ten’s leading scorer Nick Martinelli, scoring 23 points while grabbing nine boards.

Ty Berry also totaled 23 points on 7-for-18 shooting. 15 of his shots came from behind the 3-point line, hitting six of them. No other Wildcat scored more than six points.

The Wildcats dominated Nebraska on the glass, out-rebounding the Huskers 46 to 27. They also scored 36 points in the paint compared to Nebraska’s 18.

This is the first win for Nebraska against Northwestern in Welsh-Ryan Arena since it was built in 2015.

The Huskers will travel to State College to take on Penn State on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
