Offensive Explosion Lifts Nebraska Baseball Past No 5 Oregon State

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska baseball team took the series from No. 5 Oregon State on Sunday, beating the Beavers 16-7 in eight innings at Haymarket Park.


The Huskers were dominant in situational hitting. With two outs, the Huskers hit .600 and knocked in 10 RBIs.

With runners on base, Nebraska was 9-for-14 from the plate, and went 8-for-9 with runners in scoring position. The Huskers also went 2-for-2 with the bases loaded.

Nebraska held a 6-3 lead headed into the top of the sixth inning, but the Beavers proceeded to score four unanswered runs to take a 7-6 lead in the seventh inning.

The Huskers then exploded for 9 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to regain the lead and grab their 12th win of the season.

As a team, the Big Red tallied 14 total hits and only committed one error. The Beavers totaled nine hits, committed two errors and left 11 runners on base.

Tyler Stone and Riley Silva led the Huskers from the plate, each totaling three hits and 3 runs.

Stone, Will Jesske and Max Buttenback each had three RBIs. Stone, Buttenback, Jesske and Hogan Helligso each had a home run.

Luke Broderick (2-0) got the win on the mound for Nebraska, pitching 0.2 innings in relief and only allowing one hit and one run.

Jackson Brockett started the game for Nebraska and pitched 3.1 innings before being taken out of the game with some discomfort.


The Beavers were led by AJ Singer with a 3-for-4 showing from the plate. Singer also knocked in a team-high two RBIs.

Joey Mundt (1-1) took the loss for the Beavers, pitching 0.2 innings while giving up 3 runs.

Nebraska will take the field again on Tuesday to take on in-state rival Creighton. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Haymarket Park.
