Potential for two rounds of severe weather in eastern Nebraska Thursday
We are currently looking into two rounds of potential severe weather on Thursday: first in the morning, then again by the late afternoon and evening.
But first, Tuesday should be a rather nice day of abundant sunshine and less wind.
Spring temperatures will be spread out across the state, high temperatures in the 60s and 70s.
We then get a lot warmer with more wind out of the south on Wednesday and Thursday, bumping temperatures to the 80s. The record high on Thursday is 90° set back in 2004, and we’ll be close to that!
But there will also be the chance for severe storms on Thursday as we get much warmer, too.
In fact, two rounds of storms will be possible that day.
There is a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk over southeast Nebraska for the threat of one or two severe storms mainly threatening hail. The window to see those severe storms is from 2 a.m. – 7 a.m. early Thursday morning.
Then if we can see the environment recover by the afternoon, we’re looking at another setup for severe storms to develop late Thursday afternoon into the evening hours.
A Marginal and a Slight (Level 2 of 5) risk are in place across the state for this second round, with mainly hail as the primary threat but also watching for gusty winds and a possible tornado if storms aren’t as elevated.
Southeast Nebraska could see one or two strong storms fire in the morning before sunrise. Then later in the day, a frontal boundary will be the focus of more storms strengthening into Thursday evening. Here’s the latest Stormcast model to watch.
Beyond Thursday, we’ll cool down to the 60s again with more widespread rain finally looking likely by Easter Sunday.
