LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska softball team started off the Knoxville Super Regional with a bang Friday night, beating No. 7 Tennessee 5-2 at Sherri Lee Parker Stadium.

The Huskers were able to get on top early and keep the edge for the rest of the contest, taking a 1-0 lead over the Lady Vols in the super regional.

As a team, the Huskers only had four hits and committed zero errors, while Tennessee racked up seven hits but committed two errors.

Nebraska was led by Big Ten Player and Pitcher of the Year Jordyn Bahl with a complete game on the mound.

Bahl (26-6) pitched all seven innings, allowing seven hits and striking out six batters.

Samantha Bland led the Huskers from the plate with a 1-for-3 showing and an RBI.

Nebraska got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

Bahl singled through the left side of the infield before stealing second to get into scoring position.

DiNardo was able to get a two-out single to center field to bring Bahl home.

The Lady Vols landed the next punch in the bottom of the second inning, getting a solo home run from Sophia Nugent to make the score 1-1.

In the top of the third inning, Bahl walked before scoring from first on a Bland double to right-center field to give the Huskers a 2-1 lead.

Two Tennessee errors in the top of the fourth inning allowed Nebraska’s offense to explode.

Hannah Camenzind started off the inning with a solo home run to center field to give Nebraska a 3-1 lead.

Bella Bacon was hit by a pitch and Lauren Camenzind was walked to put runners on first and second.

With two outs, a blooper from Bahl to the edge of the infield was dropped, allowing Bacon to score from second. An errant throw to home allowed Lauren Camenzind to score from first, making the score 5-1 in Nebraska’s favor.

Tennessee was able to cut Nebraska’s lead in the bottom of the fifth inning after a wild pitch let Amanda Ahlin score from third, making the score 5-2 Huskers.

Nebraska is now one win away from a berth in the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City.
