Scattered showers Wednesday winding down; cooler air ushered in
NEW: We have a virtual tour of rain reports from the past 24 hours across Nebraska that you can view HERE.
Severe storms late last night brought severe wind gusts through Lincoln and Lancaster County. Wind reports of 58 and 59 mph gusts through town and just south of Waverly verified the warnings.
Heaviest rain continues to move east into Iowa and bordering states to the south and east this morning, with scattered showers expected to taper off through the morning commute.
Clouds and storms just off to our south through the morning will keep temperatures in the 70s this Wednesday. There’s a chance we could see storms redevelop this afternoon, but the confidence is low in that scenario.
While still muggy, highs today will be about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday. The heat wave finally breaks today!
And highs in the 70s mean we’re all about 5-10 degrees BELOW normal now for the last couple days of July.
Storms south along the Kansas border will end as we come around to the lunch hour. Isolated storms in northeast Nebraska will try to drop a few showers south into Wednesday night, closer to the Platte River and Highway 30. Most will be dry.
A wave of storms will move from higher terrain into the Panhandle again tonight, but the risk for severe weather is minimal.
The miserable humidity of late will continue to improve with much more comfortable weather as we head into August.
Thursday and into Friday, dew points will fall to the lower 60s and upper 50s.
