A Cooler and Rainy Labor Day Weekend Ahead

The Storm Prediction Center has issued a SLIGHT RISK (Level 2 out of 5) for central portions of the state on Friday. An isolated tornado, large hail, damaging winds, and heavy rain will be possible with storms this afternoon and evening.

Stormcast shows clusters of storms moving south late this afternoon and into the evening hours across central and southwest Nebraska. The greatest risk of severe weather will be from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. CDT (2 p.m. – 9 p.m. MDT).
Forecast:
A few small showers have drifted across southeast Nebraska this afternoon, but temperatures will remain pleasant with a little bit of cloud cover heading into this evening.
Mild weather ahead for our high school football Game of the Week, as Lincoln Lutheran takes on Lincoln Christian tonight at 7 p.m. under partly sunny skies. A light breeze and a few sprinkles will be possible for tonight’s game.
Low temperatures across southeastern Nebraska will fall to the lower and middle 60s tonight with mostly cloudy skies. Light winds are expected out of the south-southeast and a small chance of showers.
Mostly cloudy tonight in the Capital City with a small chance of showers close to sunrise on Saturday. We will drop into the mid-60s tonight in Lincoln with a south-southeasterly breeze.
High temperatures to start the Labor Day weekend will remain well below average for this time of year in the lower and middle 70s. Mostly cloudy skies and widespread showers and thunderstorms are expected by tomorrow afternoon.
Tomorrow will feel like fall in the Capital City with highs in the mid-70s with showers and thunderstorms likely for most of the day.
Storm chances continue through Labor Day with highs falling into the lower 70s. Small chances of rain remain in the forecast into the middle portions of next week, but we look to be sunny with temperatures in the middle and lower 70s. A quick burst of cold air on Thursday before temperatures return into the upper 70s by the Husker’s home opener against Akron next Saturday.
