Next few days are heating up; evening storms way out west
After seeing our first 80s of September yesterday, we’re quickly on our way to the 90s by the end of this week.
Temperatures heat up to the middle 80s by Thursday afternoon.
Enough humidity will be out there to make it feel a few degrees warmer. The heat index will be up around the low to mid 90s Friday and Saturday, a little worse by those days.
Winds will be out of the southeast today, gusting up around 20-25 mph in Lincoln during the afternoon timeframe.
After some more clouds in the morning, we should be mostly sunny for the second part of the day. Middle and upper 80s are considered above average for this point now in September.
Storms this evening will be steered around the ridge of high pressure bringing us these warmer temperatures this week, meaning storms will be mainly seen only in western Nebraska by Thursday evening.
There is a Marginal (Level 1 of 5) risk in anticipation that a few isolated storms could become severe with damaging wind and hail as the primary threats.
Temperatures in the lower 90s return for Friday and Saturday as we stay dry for the majority of those days.
Husker tailgating Saturday morning will start out warmer as overnight temperatures only cool to the lower 70s before the sun comes up. It’ll also be fairly breezy even throughout the morning hours with a south-southwest wind picking up around 10-20 mph.
By kickoff, temperatures will have warmed to the lower 80s already. With the sun beating down and enough humidity to make it still feel a bit worse Saturday afternoon, this is going to be a hot game.
Late storm chances return Saturday night and mostly into Sunday with timing and details to be worked out in the coming days.
