Huskers handle New Mexico in Hall of Fame Classic opener

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska men’s basketball team opened up the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City with a win over New Mexico, beating the Lobos 84-72 at the T-Mobile Center.

The Huskers led the entire game and outperformed New Mexico in nearly every major statistical category.
As a team, Nebraska shot 47% from the floor, compared with New Mexico’s 39%.
The Huskers also outshot the Lobos from deep, 37% to 30%.
Nebraska totaled 38 rebounds, including five offensive boards. The Huskers also scored 28 points in the paint.
Jamarques Lawrence led the Huskers with 21 points on 6-for-9 shooting, including a 4-for-7 mark from deep.
Redshirt freshman Braden Frager followed right behind with 20 points, shooting 6-for-8 from the field and 4-for-6 from deep. He also pulled in a team-high eight boards.
Rienk Mast rounded out Nebraska’s double-digit scorers with 17 points.
Sam Hoiberg led the Huskers in assists with six.
The win marks the second time in the last three seasons that Nebraska has jumped out to a 5-0 start. The Huskers started the season 7-0 in 2023-24.
Nebraska will play the winner of Kansas State and Mississippi State in the championship of the Hall of Fame Classic on Friday.
