Above is what our StormCast weather model is saying for timing, duration, and location of the storms Sunday.
Much of central and eastern Nebraska has a chance for tornadoes tonight, generally after 5pm. In the yellow shaded area, a couple of strong tornadoes are possible, EF1-2. In the red shaded area, the strong tornado chance is a little higher. Not everybody will see tornadoes, but the chance is there for those in the shaded area. The green shaded area typically means 1-2 quick spin up tornadoes are possible. The area with the brown shaded area has a little bit higher chance for the quick spin up.
There is a chance for large hail this evening, generally in the eastern half of the state after 5pm. The western half of the state also has a chance, but that chance is getting smaller as the day progresses. The area in the brown shaded area may see hail up to 1″. The area shaded in yellow may see 1-1.5″ hail. The red shaded area may see hail in excess of the size of golf balls.
There is a chance for damaging this evening, generally in the eastern half of the state after 5pm. The western half of the state also has a chance, but that chance is getting smaller as the day progresses. Wind in excess of 60 mph is possible in the yellow shaded area, 65-70+ mph in the red shaded area.
We’re not done yet, either. Monday afternoon and evening may see some very severe weather once again.
Temperatures then cool off after the fronts move through on Monday. 40s for highs in western Nebraska are possible.
