Nebraska DHHS commended for its low payment error percentage regarding SNAP benefits

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) reported a 5.9% payment error rate for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during the 2025 federal fiscal year.

Nebraska is one of 10 states to record a payment error rate below 6%.

“This low payment error rate represents our teams’ diligence and commitment to accuracy in determining case eligibility and benefits,” Barbara Lacina, Director of the Office of Economic Assistance, said. “DHHS is proud of our team and their continued dedication to maintaining integrity within the program while ensuring Nebraskans receive the support they need.”

The DHHS’ SNAP was commended by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Administration (FNA).

FNA Acting Adminstrator Shiela Corley wrote to DHHS complimenting the low payment error rate.

“We appreciate your continued efforts in providing the requested data and look forward to continuing to assist Nebraska in identifying, addressing, and preventing SNAP integrity issues,” Corley wrote. “Nebraska’s proper administration of SNAP is essential to ensuring the Program operates efficiently, effectively, and with integrity and accountability.”
