LPD joins sober driving enforcement for holidays
The enforcement project runs through January 1, 2022

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Begining on Friday, December 17, 2021, through Saturday, January 1, 2022, Lincoln Police Department will be a part of the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Law Enforcement effort, according to officials.
During this time officers will be conducting extra enforcement throughout Lincoln with specific emphasis on impaired driving.
According to LPD, in 2020 7,087 accidents were investigated, of which 205 drivers were cited for driving while intoxicated.
The Nebraska Department of Transportation, Highway Safety Office will provide additional funding for overtime for increased enforcement during this campaign. The grant-funded enforcement will be conducted on several weekend nights during the time period.
LPD says there are three simple steps citizens can follow to stay safe this holiday season:
- Plan ahead. If you will be drinking, do not plan on driving. designate a sober driver or arrange for alternative transportation in advance.
- If you are impaired, do not drive and find another way home.
- Be responsible. If someone you know has been drinking, do not let them drive. If you see an impaired driver on the road, contact law enforcement. Your actions could save someone’s life.
