Spotty shower/storms possible across eastern Nebraska
Today is a day many have been looking forward to for a while now: the last day of school! Many area schools will be getting out early and it’ll be another warm one to mark the occasion. Mild start to the day will have temperatures in the lower 60s as everyone preps and heads to school. Then heading home, that’s when we’ve got chances for some precipitation.
After seeing the upper 80s in Lincoln on Wednesday, temperatures will be limited by at least a couple factors. Higher dew points will come into play and added cloud cover will keep temperatures from rising higher from the lower 80s.
With some moisture returning, the daytime heating will spark a better chance for some spotty showers and storms through the afternoon. This looks to be one of our better chances of this week so far and going into Memorial weekend.
That being said, accumulations will be light and largely hit or miss. Rain dances may be needed. Stormcast shows while the chances are widespread and light throughout the afternoon, there’s still a lot of holes where people won’t see rain at all. But getting caught under an isolated storm gives you a better shot at some higher rain totals.
And with many eyes on this weekend, the warm, above-average trend continues with lots of sun and highs in the 80s. Grilling, first trips to the pool, and outdoor plans all have the green light for this holiday weekend.
Beyond Sunday, Memorial Day will be the first time we will have more chances for rain. However, even next week’s chances are minimal at best. Temperatures also look to be heading toward the lower 90s by midweek.
