UNLPD releases more details on FIJI sexual assault allegation
According to a UNL spokesperson, the alleged assault happened between a 17-year-old female UNL student and a 19-year-old male student. It happened at the house more commonly known as FIJI late Monday night.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — UNLPD released more details involving the sexual assault investigation at Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house.
According to an UNL spokesperson, the alleged assault happened between a 17-year-old female UNL student and a 19-year-old male student. The suspect is a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. However, his identity has not been released and no charges have been filed. UNLPD is working with his legal representation.
According to the spokesperson, UNLPD officers responded around 3:40 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, to Bryan East hospital.
The survivor told officers that she and an acquaintance had gone to the house together before the acquaintance left before to the alleged assault. The victim later left FIJI and had the acquaintance drive her to the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing, according to an UNL spokesperson.
FIJI was closed and suspended of all operations on Wednesday after thousands of students protested outside the fraternity house Tuesday night. Students protested again Wednesday night calling for more change.
A petition to abolish Phi Gamma Delta fraternity house from UNL’s campus on change.org has nearly 300,000 signatures.
UNL chancellor Ronnie Green released a video statement on Thursday, condemning any sort of sexual assault on campus.
“No means no.” Green said in the statement. “And if you violate that, and we can prove it — you have no place on our campus.”
Channel 8 also put in a request for an interview with UNLPD chief Hassan Ramzah but he was unavailable on Friday.
This isn’t the first time FIJI has been in hot water with the university. The fraternity only recently had a suspension lifted last year for allegations of sexual harassments years prior. The fraternity was previously suspended from 2017-2020 and had been currently on probation at UNL. The university did reinstate Phi Gamma Delta in 2019.
