Charles Herbster files lawsuit against Sen. Julie Slama
Sen. Slama and seven other women say Herbster groped them; he continues to deny allegations
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Gubernatorial candidate Charles Herbster filed a lawsuit against Sen. Julie Slama regarding sexual assault allegations that he says slandered his image.
The lawsuit aims to restore “Herbster’s good name and reputation and to oppose the false claims made against him,” Herbster’s spokeswoman Emily Novotny said in a press release.
“As set forth in my lawsuit, the false accusations and attacks on my character are part of a greater scheme calculated to try and defeat my candidacy. I will not stop fighting until the truth is told and my name is cleared,” said Herbster.
Dave Lopez, an attorney for Slama said that she has not been served with a lawsuit but that if and when she is, “she will vigorously defend herself.”
“To be sure, any claim that calls into question Senator Slama’s well-corroborated account of her sexual assault by Charles Herbster would be categorically without merit and frivolous,” Lopez said.
Seven other women also anonymously came forward to the Nebraska Examiner saying that Charles Herbster groped them.
Since the accusations have been made, three people have come forward saying that they were witnesses of the assaults or were directly informed of them right after they happened.
Herbster has continued to deny all allegations and says they are politically motivated.
