Lincoln East can’t slay Gretna Dragons in final regular season game
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Lincoln East hosted Gretna on Friday night in a matchup that could have given the Spartans a home playoff game next week.
But they couldn’t get much going against the Dragons’ defense and fell 31-14.
On the opening drive, Gretna’s Alex Wilcoxon dropped back to pass, and Mikhale Ford intercepted it.
He shook off some defenders, weaved through the middle of the field and took it all the way to the 4-yard line before being tackled.
Dash Bauman took it up the middle for the score to make it 7-0.
On the ensuing Spartan drive, Jeter Worthley was easily intercepted by Wilcoxon, who took it to the red zone before being taken out of bounds.
With prime field position, the Dragons scored on their first play of that drive with an Isaiah Weber run.
Later in the first quarter, Gretna had the ball again, and Wilcoxon launched the ball deep down the sideline.
Michael Scheef beat his defender and caught the ball over his shoulder. He was off to the races, and no one caught him.
Dragons took the lead 14-7 and stayed in front.
