One dead in rollover crash in north Lincoln
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A 73-year-old Lincoln man was killed Sunday in a rollover crash in north Lincoln, police say.
The crash happened around 2 p.m. near Interstate 180 and Superior Streets.
Police said an SUV left the road and rolled into a ditch, hitting multiple trees and fence posts before landing upside-down.
The impact of the crash startled a nearby resident.
“It was very loud,” James Draper said. “Very loud crash, bangs, rolls, you could hear metal grinding.”
The crash sent pieces of the vehicle in different directions and a piece of the metal fence hundreds of feet into the air.
“There was a chunk of fence that landed here in my backyard,” Draper said. “You can see where it actually hit the gutter.”
He said the damage to his home wasn’t that bad and was thankful no one else was outside when it happened.
“If there was somebody outside when that piece landed here, they could probably have been seriously hurt themselves,” he said.
Police closed the northbound lanes of I-180 at the Cornhusker Highway exit as they investigated the crash.
The man’s identity has not yet been released.
LPD is looking for anyone with information on the crash to contact them at either the non-emergency line at 402-441-6000 or the Crime Stoppers line at 402-475-3600.
