‘November matters’: Nebraska football seeks one more win for bowl eligibility

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska football is on the precipice of something the team hasn’t accomplished since 2016: bowl game eligibility.
The Huskers are 5-3, one win short of securing eligibility, with games against Michigan State, Maryland, Wisconsin and Iowa remaining.
Under the rule of Scott Frost, Nebraska never reached more than five wins.
But in head coach Matt Rhule’s first year, the Huskers have a chance to break the mold.
For the first time in a long time, “November matters,” defensive coordinator Tony White said Tuesday.
Nebraska is making a push for a bowl game without many of its starters, who’ve suffered season-ending injuries.
The injured players include Ethan Piper, Gabe Ervin Jr., Marcus Washington and Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda.
Fortunately for the Huskers, younger players – like Malachi Coleman, Emmett Johnson and Jaylen Lloyd – have filled vacant roles.
“I mean, we’ve put in a ton of work — team, coaches, everybody — to get to the point we are now,” tight end Thomas Fidone said. “I think it is a testament to playing through adversity and everybody’s injuries and everything that has happened.”
