Winter storm winding down for all
As this winter storm continues to wind down this Wednesday, we take a look back at our Christmas snow. It isn’t often that we see new snow on Christmas, and this year we saw the third-highest snowfall to date for that day.
The snow is just about done for most in eastern Nebraska, and we’re left with a cold, mostly cloudy day. Temperatures will gradually warm to the lower 30s, and some sun will be possible by the afternoon.
Wind chills throughout Wednesday will be about 10-degrees colder than actual air temperatures. During the “warmest” parts of the afternoon, it’ll only feel like the lower 20s.
Even though most of the snow is done, winter weather alerts are still ongoing. Western Nebraska has been downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory that continues for most until 6 p.m. Wednesday evening. Some light snow/freezing rain is possible in these areas, impacting travel for another day still.
This system is a very slow mover. It will move ever-so-slightly to the east over the next day or two, still producing some light snow showers through west-central and central Nebraska and flurries a bit closer to home.
From that, those areas are looking at another 0.5-1.5″ of snow. Flurries and light snow possible in far southeast Nebraska, but no more accumulation expected.
Warming especially into this weekend, we should see plenty of melting into Friday and Saturday. The rest of the forecast features a very cold day for New Year’s Eve, highs only in the upper 20s. Looks like we’ll be ringing in the new year with a cold one!
